I feel so blessed to have known Mary and to have had her so close throughout my life. She was like a 2nd mother to me and I will forever be grateful for my time with her. I have so many memories with Mary, Larry and Amy at Rough River, the laundry mat, honda shop, Cliffwood Drive, Key West, Jr high dances, show choir, cheerleading and the list would go on and on and on.... I learned the most important lessons in life from Mary! How to be kind, true to who you are, how to work hard and be rewarded for it. How to love with all your heart and never give up. She believed in me my whole life and that meant the world to me. She did that for so many undeniably and with pure heart. That is how I will always remember her...kind, caring, strong, happy, healthy and fierce in everything she did. Love you Mary...with all of my heart.
I met Mary and her husband, Larry, through the CSL Parker church. Mary was such an inspiration for her leadership, kindness, trail-blazing, and all-around beautiful woman. I will miss Mary very much.
Mary gave lof herself to family, friends, and society' margainalized. I remember most the fun we had at the 70th birthday party with Mike and Raechel. Everything was so lovely and laughter seemed a part of the menu. Mary shared alittle of her work. She lived her mission statemment. My sorrow is with you at your loss. She had a great legacy that will be part of those who love her.
Mary.
My memory of you is vibrant, just like the person you were.
What a tremendous loss for your family and close friends but what a privilege for all of us who have ever met you.
Much love to all of those who have been touched by your sparkle.

We can't help but smile when we think of Mary! She always had a beautiful smile spread across her face and did everything she could in service of others. We were lucky enough to go on a few vacations with Mary and Larry, and they always brought the fun! From night-swimming in Lake Austin to bringing beach toys for the kids in Puerto Vallarta, Mary always made sure everyone had a great time. She will be missed!
The memorial for Mary was awesome. Thank you so much. I love you guys.
Hi Larry, Amy, Matt, Cece, and Valle! I miss you all! Please accept my condolences for your unfortunate loss. What an incredibly beautiful and warming tribute to Mary's legacy was the celebration of life today. I was in tears the entire time and beyond. May Auntie rest in peace knowing - she moved so many of us forward in time so we can get more out of our lives and give more to those around us...
Back in January 2019 I was set to meet Auntie on the mountain at Breck, neither of us text as the day progressed and when I returned to the Breck shack to share great joy from adventure and personal triumph, Mary said she decided to stay out of my way because she wanted me to fulfill my journey - personal growth! Auntie gave me such a buoyant feeling of support and without that buoyancy, my journey to the mountain top would not have been likely. Thanks Auntie Mary!
Dear Mary - I love you so much! Thank you for being apart of our family! What a blessing for us all to have you in our lives. So thankful for that fateful eve when Amy and Matt met!! We will miss your sparkle, your laugh, your jokes and wit, and your kindness. Above all we will miss you! Keep shining bright!
Love you, Raechel❤🌈
One of the many fond memories I have of living with Amy in our sophomore year at college are the messages from Amy's parents on our answering machine, "Its Mary!...And, Larry!" It always brought a smile to our faces. I feel blessed and lucky to have received so much love from Mary over the years. She was the very best listener and always had the right words of wisdom. I am grateful for the love she sprinkled over my family when we were able to visit. I am grateful my red-headed daughter got to experience her love and see what red-headed fearlessness and bravery look like - these will be my most cherished memories. I look forward to a day when we can give you all real hugs in person. 🌈
Jimmy and I were so lucky to have known Mary. Just like everyone mentioned today, she welcomed us with open arms as Matt and Amy's friends. It was always so wonderful to see and reunite with her and Larry over the years. We were always smiling and laughing in her presence. Even though our boys only met her a few times, they remembered her and that is a testament to the person she was.
Her service was a beautiful tribute to a life well lived. She was an incredible inspiration to us all to live life to the fullest with love in your heart and a determination in your mind. We will honor Larry, Amy, Matt and the girls and live our lives this way every day.
We know that you all miss her terribly and that there will be incredibly hard times when you want her with you. We are all here for you and feel so much gratitude that we knew Mary as well and felt her love for you and the world. Hugs from all of us to you.
I’ve said if before and I will say it again,...you guys mean the world to me. Mary had such a huge impact on my life that I am so thankful for! Today’s tribute spoke so much about her and the life she lived. Her outlook on life and her devotion to her family and friends is something I want to strive for every day. Thank you, Mary. Larry, Amy, Matt, Cecilia and Valerie, my heart is broken for you. But I’m so THANKFUL you have each other and I love you all more than words can say.
Mary's positive energy was powerful. Her can-do attitude was infectious. We were so lucky to have her in the Summit County community to lend her drive and expertise to domestic violence work. So many lives are better because of Mary. And her energy is still sent through her dear family and friends today; Mary's memorial was beautiful and uplifting.
Mary will be terribly missed by all who knew her. But, her smile and kind spirit will live on! My brothers and I have such great memories of our time together in New Albany and at Rough River. We are so grateful that our friendships have endured the years. We love you all and hope our collective memories bring you comfort.
Beautiful Service. Mary is such an inspiration. I've never met anyone quite like her. A very special person. I feel very lucky to have known her.. Our hearts go out to you Amy, Larry, and Matt. God bless. Matt and Erin.
You are missed so much already, Mary. My life is better because you were a part of it. I learned so much from you while we we were part of Advocates. Our community has lost a true angel. Sending tons of love and hugs to Larry, Amy and your entire family.
You will be so missed Mary! You were such an asset to our community, especially through your longtime work with Advocates for Victims of Assault, which is how I met Mary and Larry.
Your smile could like up a room! It was always so fun to spend time with you.
Larry, so sorry for your sudden loss. I’m sending positive thoughts and a virtual hug to you and your family.
I am so grateful for our time together Mary. You had that wonderful ability of making anyone feel welcome, comfortable, and at home. I'm sure you're finding ways to add even more sparkle in Heaven. I will never forget you and I know I'll see you again in time - it just doesn't seem soon enough. Love you bunches!
Many thoughts and prayers to Larry for your loss. Mary made a positive impact on my life. I knew Mary for many years as members of the same non-profit board. Mary was always a kind, thoughtful and upbeat force of a woman. She was one of a kind. I will fondly remember our time together at meetings, and those fun raft trips and fund raisers, where I got to see her fun adventurous side.
I will also remember our last correspondence where we stated we considered each other a friend. Goodby my friend. You will be missed.
Amy, Matt, Larry, Cece, and Valle (and everyone else),
I'm a writer by day, but words escape me in this moment. Well, good words anyway. I haven't seen you guys much recently but I've always considered you family. That was in no small part because of Mary. She always welcomed me into her and Larry's houses in Denver and Breckenridge. She always hugged me and asked me questions about my life, which is a trait that so many people undervalue. I was always so impressed by and thankful for her dedication to her counseling career. Plus, she and Larry raised Amy, who is just as kind and funny and generous and delightful as her mom was. I"m so sorry I can't make the memorial service on Saturday (I'm moving that day, and the truck shows up at 10:30). But I will be thinking of all of you tomorrow and keeping you in my thoughts as we move forward in 2020 and beyond.
I have known the Augustyn's for more than 40 years now. I've been blessed during that time to have shared in many celebrations, birthdays, holidays and other joyous occasions as family. I am deeply heartbroken personally and compassionately sad for the loved ones that will continue to love a spirit that has taken flight. Mary's presence will be sorely missed. Every kind, loving, and giving word you can think of describes her and the life she lived. It is hard to imagine Mary not being here any longer, but I realize she will always be a part of everyone she touched. I have so many memories, funny sayings, and great lessons that she taught me, I don't even know where to begin sharing. I believe that she lived her life to the fullest, practiced what she preached, and I am deeply grateful for such an amazing role model. Her vibrant spirit will always live in those who love her. To state it simply, peace was her goal. I believe she has found it in the most profound way and I pray that those who love and miss her will also someday find peace too. I love you Mary! When I think of you I want to smile with my mouth wide open. May your journey keep you shining brighter than the sun, sparkling more brilliant than the stars, and always continue being more colorful than a rainbow.🌈
My husband and I have known Mary since Jr. High/ High school... Mary went to the Catholic school in Grand Forks and we went to the rival school, Central high school... BUT we always managed to get together for fun times... John grew up knowing and spending time with Mary’s brothers Bob and Ted over the years.... Mary would visit and we’d always have a meal together and talk of our growing up years... lots of laughs...in 2015 our schools got together and celebrated our 50 year reunion... what a blast we had... Mary was probably the most dedicated,sincere and caring person that we have been privileged to ever know ... God rest her soul... she will be missed .. ❤️ John snd Lorie
Those of you who knew my sister, Mary, my baby sister, know she had a successful career in guidance and counseling. And you might know that she pursued it later in life, acquiring a Masters Degree in that discipline just short of her 50th birthday. What you likely don't know is that she was born with that ability.
September was starting out as a very bad month for me in 1947. Found myself quite depressed at age 6 & 1/2. I'd had the run of our safe little neighborhood in Grand Forks, with lots of kids around my age. We played kickball, street hockey, hide and seek - things kids did before television and the internet took over our lives. Then, suddenly, I found myself incarcerated in an institution known as first grade. It was a 9 month sentence, they told me. We didn't have kindergarten in prehistoric North Dakota so I'd never been locked up before.
Then Mom went to the hospital halfway through that month to get rid of her big belly, and came home with this bubbly little red-headed thing who immediately made a difference in our lives. I'd wake up in the morning (two-bedroom house, all three kids in the same room) and she'd be smiling and cooing, arms and legs moving, but going nowhere. It didn't take long before she was standing, and the first thing I'd see in the morning would be her gripping the top of her crib while smiling and babbling. Soon she was out of that crib and bouncing around the house, then around the neighborhood, then around the world, and she didn't stop for 73 years. You couldn't be depressed with her around, now she's not and it's a huge loss for our family.
I am an Alpha Phi sorority sister of Mary's. when Mary and Larry first came to Colorado, they invited me to thier home in downtown Denver.... the beautiful old " Golden Triangle" house. I enjoyed my time with them, and also getting re-acquainted with Mary. when they moved to Breckinridge, even though I am a skiier I somehow lost physical contact with them. Brief e-mails and always a promist to have them here for dinner when the next came down. I promised myself that after the holidays I would definitely have them here.
We can get so busy with nothing , that we allow time to pass and do not tend to the beautiful quality things in our life, like Mary and Larry !! Mary was radiant and yes, as everyone has said, the most positive person I know. I loved seeing all the activities she was involved in... and what a beautiful contribution she was in her profession. My heartfelt sympathy to Larry and all of you with the loss of this wonderul sweet spirit ! xo
Sending prayers to Larry, Amy and her family and friends for the loss of her mother Mary She was a beautiful person inside and out with such a beautiful soul!! An angel amongst us!! She got her wings way too early...but I know she is flying high!! Fly Mary fly through the beautiful rainbows. Sending lots of hugs and prayers to Larry, Amy and her family and friends. I know they will miss her dearly. Love you all!🌈🌈❤❤❤❤😇😇
I miss you, Mary, but I still feel your warm smile. You have been such an inspiring mentor for me. I am so grateful that I have gotten to know you and Larry. Rich and I will never forget those fun Mi Casa fundraiser dinners that we got to share for Advocates of Victims of Assault. I cherish the memories of working with you to support Summit Advocates these last 14 years. You have touched so many lives and your work will carry on.
Larry and family, May you find comfort in your memories and may God bless all of you.
Rich and I are sending you lots of love and healing.
The Augustyn's lived about 1 1/2 blocks from us in New Albany, IN. Amy and my daughter Lisa went to school with each other and graduated in the same class, 1993. Mary always was pleasant and always had big smiles.
She was a fine lady and will be missed!
May God Bless her and give solace to her family during these stressful times!
I remember most of the Easters when we would go to Mary and Larry's, and how Easter was my favorite holiday just because we would always go to their house for the Easter egg hunt with Cece and Valie, the yummy lunch we would have, and defiantly the desserts. Wherever we went with Mary, she always brought joy with her, and the crafts she would have us do. We have all of the ornaments we made together on our Christmas tree. I will miss you Mary and the brightness you will always have.

This was probably the hardest thing I've had to write. I look at all the other comments and just nod, as you all have described Mary so well. Mary was the light to every candle, and to see the light go away, it just breaks my heart. Mary was one of the most caring person I've known in my whole life, she always brought crafts and put a smile on all the cousin faces, even the adults, we all had such a wonderful time with Aunt Mary, always making me laugh, and filling up my heart with smiles, even when I was not with here, I thought of her and smiled. Thank you Mary, for everything you have done for me and for this family. I will miss you so much. Keep spreading your goodness up there. 🌈❤😇
"I can do it" she would always say. That in a way describes her in all aspects of her life. She was an intelligent professional and a fierce advocate of women's rights and of curbing domestic violence. Mary was married for over 50 happy years to Larry, the love of her life. She loved family and friends and there was nothing in the world she would not do for them. She doted on her daughter,Amy, and her husband, Matt, and especially cherished being with her granddaughters, Cece and Valle. We will never forget Mary and will value the times we had together. She will surely be missed.
I had the privilege to marry into this family 29 years ago. Larry and Amy I know you are heartbroken about the loss of such an amazing and important women in your life. Mary lit up a room when she walked in. She was an inspiration to all of us. Someone who lived life to the fullest everyday and taught us all how to love one another for who we are.. One of the greatest gifts was her ability to listen always interested in what ever was going on your life. I will miss her dearly
You are loved as you loved.
Love,
Bridget
Mary Augustyn was a person of character., full of life, spirited, a beautiful soul. Among her many good qualities, she was nurturing, talented, and adventuresome. She had definite opinions! She will be missed.
God call her to counseling him, though this challenging evolving times.
God bless her soul.

Amy and I were childhood friends and there are so many 'firsts' I can credit Mary for. She introduced me to so many yummy foods, fun games, good music, I could fill up this page listing all the things that I love to this day thanks to my wonderful time spent with the Augustyns in precious preteen years. I always had grand stories to tell when I got back home from a weekend at Rough River. I will never forget Mary's voice and her big smile.
I am terribly sad to hear of Mary's passing and send all my love to Larry, Amy and her family, and of course, Melanie and all the girls that Mary loved as her own. May God comfort you during this time.
To my beloved Uncle Larry and my cousin Amy, and the rest of your family,
Words are too hard for me to explain the part of my heart that is broken from the loss of my Aunt Mary. Everything those have said about her is sooo true. She was the most generous, loving, joyful, sincere, adventurous, courageous, fun and fun loving storyteller this side of heaven.
She sent a card once to the family, I think for Christmas one year, that speaks of her spirit,
Anyway by Saint Mother Teresa
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway,
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
May you rest in peace Aunt Mary,
Love, Terry
I met Mary through my beautiful childhood friend Rebecca. Mary’s daughter, Amy, is married to Rebecca’s brother Matt! I had the honor to meet Mary at various family functions when visiting Rebecca in Colorado . Mary’s zest for life, loving smile and infectious laughter always made me feel welcomed and like part of her family. It is a great loss to all who knew Mary, we are sending sympathy and love during this difficult time to Larry, Amy, Matt, Cecelia, Valle and there extended family & friends.
Much love from Connecticut!!
Love, Tara Amodio & Family
I knew Mary through her nephew Ian and I was lucky enough to meet her during several special occasions in his life along the way, as well as spend time with her and Larry at their homes in Denver and Breckenridge on a number of occasions. Mary always welcomed me like one of the family and made sure we always had an amazing time. My memories of snowboarding, of lazing around watching an impressive collection of VHS tapes, and of exploring Breckenridge are some of my fondest memories, and they're all underpinned by the kindness that Mary showed everyday. She'll be missed very much.
I had the privilege of working with Mary professionally for the past 15 years. We served together on the Summit County Violence Prevention Team and recently she presented at the Breckenridge Police Academy at CMC during my Domestic Violence class. Mary was always willing to share her expertise and law enforcement in Summit County is better because of it. We shared a love of the sea and she always spoke of her beloved grand girls. To say she loved her family fiercely is so, so true. Our community has lost a true advocate. Much love to all who loved her, a life well lived indeed. Well done Miss Mary, well done.
Our hearts go out to Larry and the sweet Palcso family. Mary's loss is felt everywhere by so many lives she touched. Whenever you had a conversation with Mary, you always got a sense of peace and love. Her spirit lives on in her daughter and sweet granddaughters.
We recall Mary being so generous to our sons, parents and family, not to mention all who she encountered. She put on a mean spread for the 4th of July, and led us through her fairy garden with her granddaughters whom she adored the most.
Another 4th of July, we hiked into Breck with Mary only to have her out hike everyone in flip flops, all whilst sharing sweet stories. She said that every time she drove through the Eisenhower tunnel and saw the mountains, that it was Shangri-La!
Her zest for life, spirituality and peace was contagious, and our hearts are so broken for her family, but we are all better people to have spent time with sweet Mary. The song that comes to mind when we think of Mary is Heart of Gold by Neil Young.
Mary's heart of gold 💕 will stay with us all.
Sincerely,
The Flockens
We knew Mary briefly through CSL Parker. She and Larry always greeted us with such warmth, exuding such love and zest for life. I was astounded the first time I heard Mary speak, and hoped to get to know her better once COVID-19 eased up. I admire Mary more than ever, and love feeling her presence. Her Mission Statement is so inspiring, I will use it as a template for my own! What a shining example of how to truly LIVE our lives. Here's to Mary!!
Amy,I am truly sorry for your loss. Debbie
We loved Mary so much! How could you not... Mary's smile and positive energy filled all our family events with joy. Her servant heart was always on display and her kind words were always on point! She was intentional, focused, loving and her wonderful legacy was no accident. We grieve with you in our loss and smile thinking about joyful memories of Mary.💕🌈
Mary was exactly that. Marry. Being around her, you just knew you were safe and loved completely. Her infectious energy rippled through everyone lucky enough to meet her, know her, and love her. Her being vibrated to a tune only Mary Magdalene could truly represent and what she came here to create could never be lost or forgotten. I am grateful to have know her, but I am comforted by the fact that she will never leave me. She gave with gratitude, which is a skill we could all practice in her honor.
Thank you Mary.
What a loss for all of us - Larry and Amy, Matt, CeCe and Valle, our extended Augustyn-Palcso-O'Kelley family .... and the planet! I have learned a lot from Mary's all-too-short life: Live life everyday to its fullest. Mary was always smiling, ever generous, devoted to her granddaughters, and religious about her 10,000 steps. She was the youngest and most vibrant of us elders in our tight clan. Always saying "yes", she joined me for walking the Bolder Boulder so I would have a buddy - even adding fun hats, flags, and bling for our costumes. She immediately said "yes" when I asked her to make a COVID mask when none were available. Thankfully she said "yes" to Larry 50 years ago - Or was it Larry who said "yes"? We have been blessed with their progeny - joyful Amy, talented CeCe, and delightful Valle. Mary's spirit lives on.
Sending love and heartfelt condolences to the entire extended family. Mary was a shining light that will be missed but will always be remembered. ❤🌈
I loved Mary so much she was a glowing light in the circle of our family and i will always remember her.
Dear Amy and Larry, thank you for allowing me to create this online space to honor Mary's memory. I feel her spirit in the rainbow sparkles, the sweet fairies, the beautiful photos, and the story of her life -- which was lived to the fullest. I cannot describe my sorrow at the loss of such a dynamic, feisty, fabulous, loving woman. I'm so sorry for our family, and most especially for the two of you. I loved the way Mary delivered jokes, how she would bring 10 desserts to a holiday party, the way she dressed (rockin' the side ponytail and maximum sparkles), the passion she gave to her work, the love she gave to her family. I will cherish our last time together on the 4th of July - the shotski (!!!) and the rain songs. May her spirit live on in all whose lives she so deeply touched. Love you forever! Erin
